DESERT VIEW HIGHLANDS, Los Angeles County — Residents concerned about smoke, unusual industrial odors or other potential air-pollution violations can contact the Antelope Valley Air Quality Management District (AVAQMD).
The district regulates stationary pollution sources in much of the northern desert portion of Los Angeles County. Inspectors can investigate complaints and review whether a facility is meeting its permit conditions. The published complaint phone number is 661-723-8070; the district also offers an online complaint form.
What to include in a report
To help investigators, residents can describe the location, date, approximate time, nature of the odor or emissions, duration and any observable source—without trespassing or putting themselves in danger. Filing a complaint does not establish that a violation occurred. The district decides whether an inspection or enforcement action is appropriate.
For immediate respiratory distress or an active life-threatening emergency, seek emergency assistance; an environmental complaint line is not a substitute for 911.
